Caity’s SNL Feelings
You know what? Fuck it.
I LOVED SNL TONIGHT.
Was it perfect? Of course not. When is an episode of a sketch comedy show EVER perfect? That’s the nature of sketch. You try to hit different senses of humor, different audiences. If a whole entire sketch show was hilarious to me, that means they’ve got a very narrow audience. And I’m okay when episodes don’t hit it out of the ballpark because they so rarely do tbh.
I mean, I liked most of the episode! Mick pleasantly surprised me as host - I feel like he really respects the show and was very eager to do a good job, and I laughed a lot at his performances. I found him pretty delightful. Except that weird blues song because lol you are an old british rock star dude.
But what SNL always delivers, in my world anyway, is this really great sense of love for its cast and also for its audience. There’s no way tonight was Jason’s official last night, because they would have honored that.
I feel like Andy only got his digital short because I doubt he needed any more than that. His mark on SNL history will always be the digital short; it brought a new kind of sketch comedy to the masses and it made SNL relevant in the 21st century. He basically made youtube what it is today, and brought sketch comedy to a viral level. There wouldn’t be so much comedy available to us on the internet without him - Lazy Sunday broke the mold. It’s extremely fitting that he’d exit with a bookend to that. It was a gamechanger and will always be remembered that way.
And Wiig? Well. She’s going down as one of the greats, for sure. She has been the face of that show since the last greats left. She’s gonna be up there with Radner and Fey and Poehler and Shannon. She already is. She’s basically been considered an SNL legend for quite a while now, while she was still on the show. And what I love about Wiig is that she’s not a typical sketch performer - she’s such a quiet, down-to-earth private person who can go on stage and lose her mind and do amazing things. And she’s going to have an AMAZING post-SNL career. She’s already a comedy legend and I just, I can’t believe she’s only just leaving where her career got its start. She has so many amazing things ahead of her.
It’s truly a kick to the gut, though, because this is the end of such a wonderful era. They’ve both been around since 2005. It’s hard to lose those parts of your childhood SNL that you’ve been able to still hold on to. It’s weird to think about never being excited over Wiig resurrecting an old favorite, or to never sit and scream at a digital short again. It’s really tough for me to deal with change, especially when SNL is involved.
But honestly? I’m excited for the future of the show. I’m excited for some younger faces to start gaining more ground. I’m really, really looking forward to the other ladies coming forward and owning their place. It’s a really exciting time because the two most recognizable faces of the show are gone, and it’s time for new people to take the spotlight.
So it’s bittersweet. It hurts, but there are things to look forward to.
And well, when Lorne comes out to dance with you for a goodbye, consider my life over.

SCREW IT, IMMA WRITE A WHOLE POST.
Lindsay’s past episodes are literally some of my favorite of all time. I remember watching her 2004 episode live and then over and over in reruns on E and loving it more than life. Who DOESN’T remember watching that Debbie Downer sketch and holding their breath for the next crack-up? And the Harry Potter sketch, and our first playdate with Kaitlin, and…
Now that I think about it, a lot of the wonderful things about Lindsay episodes were the people around her. And that is NOT a slight on the current cast, because I love these people. But something was just off. The writing was weak and depended on them to do the brunt work, but they gave Lindsay these bland roles that drug every sketch down.
Why couldn’t Lindsay be the one running in front of the car? Or better yet… why not a different sketch entirely, that was funny and showcased the host in any way?
I was pulling for Lindsay, and overall I’m proud of her. Girlfriend had her shit together and had no problem poking fun at herself and it was great. She could have handled more! She used to be a great comedic actress. But she had so little to do tonight, and it dragged down the sketches.
I mean, everyone was great. Wiig was pulling out some awesome facial expressions, Bobby and Taran’s dedication was so fun to watch, and we got Fallon and Hamm and some wonderful Snooki, and that Real Housewives of Disney sketch was KILLER. I’m not sure why things went so wrong, otherwise. It should have been great!!
So, I think I’m going to revisit some past Lohan episodes. They’re so nostalgic for me and I was really hoping the show would recreate that tonight, and I’m sad it didn’t.
Caity’s SNL Feelings
I’m sad that these posts have become so inconsistent. SNL is a show I love dearly with my whole heart, but sometimes the love doesn’t overwhelm me enough to word-vomit when the hosts are Blanding Tatum and Zooey Quirkschanel.
But throw in an old cast member I’ve loved since I was 13 and you’ve got me. (aka, super long review type thing under the cut)
Caity’s SNL Feelings
And oh the feelings there are.
You know how everyone kind of has their golden age of SNL? Like that year you started being conscious of more than just the old references your parents make. When you decided bedtime was for chumps and homework was for idiots (see, reruns ran on E during homework). And that cast is always YOUR cast and no matter what you’ll never get that cast back and no one will ever be as special to you.
Caity’s SNL Feelings
I’ve been completely forgetting to do this lately because my Parks feelings are so overbearing and needy but I still have lots of feels regarding SNL so here is a quick thing about last night’s episode.
Caity’s SNL Feelings
I’m very sleepy so this will probably be a short one. HERE WE GO.
Caity’s SNL Feelings
I was gonna keep notes tonight so I could remember what happened in the episode… they died out after the third sketch and then it just says “ZOOLANDER”, so… let’s try this.
SNL feelings
This is gonna be a short one, considering my stomach was quite upset during most of the episode and I missed a lot/was in general anguish.
Melissa is one of the most wonderful hosts they’ve had in years. Like, how on earth has she not been an actual cast member? She was so absolutely dedicated to her characters, so great at physical comedy, so sure of herself. It was just absolutely wonderful. She was a complete star.
I thought Vanessa really shone tonight, and it just furthers my disbelief that she hasn’t been promoted. Seriously, all four featured players continue to be absolutely wonderful (when they’re shown; it seems only two or three really get any chances each week, which is sad) and just, it’s gonna be such a stellar generation once the older cast members leave.
I’m really starting to feel the absence of Update co-anchors; I mean, obviously it’s been several years since Seth has been doing it alone, but for some reason, it just really struck me how much I miss banter and getting to hear two different comedic voices during Update. Though I don’t think I (or Seth, really) would be able to take it if he took up a new co-anchor. So I’m curious at to what will happen once Seth moves on. I do hope they return to co-anchors.
That’s mostly all I have to say. Sorry, folks. Blame the McDonalds I ate yesterday :(
SNL Feelings
So for the newer followers, I do Caity’s Many Words on Parks, and I do SNL Feelings. So. This is the latter. Obviously. It’s less word-vomity than I am prone to getting but oh well.
